Invited to perform at both the National Palace Museum in Taipei and its Southern Branch in Chiayi — bringing jazz, blues, and dance into historic museum spaces. From Afternoon in Paris in 2015 to Rhapsody in Blue in 2023, each performance created a different afternoon mood inside a different hall.
Why is the sky blue? Why is the ocean blue? Questions that once puzzled us as children have gradually found their answers — but our love for blue has stayed.
Blue can be melancholy, like the pull of the blues. It can be dazzling, like the brilliant glazes of cloisonné enamel. And there's always the idea of "bluer than blue" — a constant pursuit of something even better. Jazz is rooted in the blues, and the program featured Gershwin classics including Rhapsody in Blue and Summertime, paired with blues social dance — the most human way to connect with music, faithful and ever-changing, with every moment uniquely its own.
The event was also livestreamed on the museum's official fan page and received a warm response from audiences near and far.
Friday Quintet was invited to perform at the National Palace Museum in Taipei as part of the "NPM Weekend Night" series, with the jazz standard Afternoon in Paris at the heart of the program.
The ensemble brought jazz's elegant rhythms and improvisational language into the historic museum setting, weaving a light and unhurried afternoon atmosphere through the galleries — a reminder of how jazz crosses time and speaks directly to people, wherever they are.
Museums, arts institutions, cultural centers, corporate ceremonies — we tailor every program to the space and occasion. Get in touch to discuss how we can bring live jazz to your venue.
